Room to breathe
Out of my distress, I called on the LORD. The LORD answered me with freedom.
Psalm 118:5 · WEBDistress can make life feel narrow. Fear limits what we can see, pressure crowds our thoughts and every option appears closed. The psalmist knew that confinement and called on the Lord from within it. God answered him with freedom, restoring the space to breathe, see clearly and respond faithfully.
The psalm does not say the writer rescued himself by thinking more positively. He called on God. Prayer made room for dependence, and God met him there. Circumstances can change quickly. At other times, God creates room within us before anything around us changes. He steadies our hearts, restores perspective and helps us recognize a faithful next step.
If pressure has been closing in on you, do not carry it silently. Call on the Lord and name what is causing distress. Receive the support He provides through prayer, Scripture, wise counsel and practical help. Freedom begins with a breath, an honest conversation or the decision to stop carrying what God never assigned to you. The Lord is able to meet you in the narrow place and lead you into greater freedom.
I call on the Lord in my distress, and I receive His help. Fear and pressure will not confine my heart; God gives me room to breathe, think clearly and respond faithfully.
Father, You see the pressure that has been crowding my thoughts. I call on You for help. Settle my heart, restore my perspective and show me what I need to release. Lead me toward wise support and give me courage to take the next faithful step You place before me.
Amen.
