Grace that holds

He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.

2 Corinthians 12:9 · WEB
Today’s word

An unanswered prayer can make us wonder whether grace has reached its limit. Paul knew the tension of asking repeatedly for change and receiving a different answer. In the place of removal, God revealed sustaining grace and power that remained active within weakness.

We often imagine freedom as the removal of every limitation. Yet God works within a circumstance we would not have chosen, keeping it from becoming the measure of our usefulness or worth. Weakness can teach us dependence without becoming our identity.

Paul continued to bring his need before God, and the answer drew him into deeper dependence. Weakness no longer had authority to define his usefulness or worth. It became the place where the power of Christ was most clearly displayed. Bring God what you cannot manage in your own ability and receive what He supplies for this day. His grace is not a consolation prize; it is the active strength of Christ resting upon us and sustaining faithful obedience. Dependence becomes the doorway through which divine strength is revealed.

I declare

God’s grace is sufficient for me, and Christ’s power rests upon me. I am not ashamed of my need; I receive sustaining grace and remain dependent on God.

Prayer

Father, I bring You the place where I feel limited and weary. I continue to ask for Your help and remain open to wise care. Free me from shame about my weakness. Let the power of Christ rest upon me, and give me sufficient grace for what this day requires.

Amen.
